Admissions

Students wishing to receive a Ph.D. in Comparative Human Development must apply directly to the Department of Comparative Human Development through the Division of the Social Sciences.

Application Requirements

Applicants to the University of Chicago’s graduate and professional programs are required to have earned a bachelor's degree or its equivalent, or a more advanced degree, from an accredited college or university prior to matriculation. Admission depends upon strength in the general undergraduate record, scores on the Graduate Record Examination (if submitted; GRE scores are recommended but not required), letters of recommendation, personal statement and interests, and relevant research experiences.

Applications must be submitted to the Social Sciences Division Dean of Students by 11:59 p.m. US Central Time on December 5, 2023. We accept applications only once per year for enrollment the following autumn. Please refer to the Social Sciences Division website for an overview of the process and a complete list of requirements.
