Part-time Lecturer, Spring Quarter 2018
Dr. Avery Smith received her PhD in Philosophy from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. Her areas of specialization are 20th Century Continental Philosophy (specifically Emmanuel Levinas and Paul Ricoeur), Phenomenology, Ethics and Metaphysics. She has a background in employing hermeneutics to critique behaviors and actions committed in the name and/or context of the corporation; continuing that work, she has created a system of corporate ethics based on her understanding and interpretation of Levinas' and Ricoeur's philosophy. Additionally, Dr. Smith is investigating how we may address social (racial) inequalities and injustices using a philosophical, particularly a phenomenological, approach while also utilizing methodologies and resources from other disciplines.
