As our academic year ends, a final round of awards, honors, and placements received by members of our community.

Undergraduate Students

Saalika Mela has been awarded the prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship, which provides full support for graduate study at the University of Cambridge. Read more about the award and her plans here.

Our undergraduates won three of the eleven competitive PRISM Summer Grants for 2012 -- the highest number of any department. This is a credit not only to their faculty advisors, but also to our preceptors Julia Kowalski and Christine El Ouardani.

David Ansari and Rita Biagoli were awarded funds from the Council on Advanced Studies for a visiting lecture series.

David Ansari, Kelsey Robbins, and Laura Horton all won Lemelson fellowships.

Amir Hempel is the recipient of a Wenner Gren Foundation Dissertation Fieldwork Grant.

Zhiying Ma's award was a Henry Luce Foundation/ACLS Dissertation Grant for China Studies.

Tracy Jones received support from the Governing Board of the Chicago Center for Jewish studies.

Eugene Raikhel is the recipient of the Faculty Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentoring, an award initiated and supported by our students.

Jennifer Cole has been named a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow, a prestigious award, which will allow her a year of leave in 2013-2014.

Guanglei Hong has been awarded a major multi-year grant from the Institute of Education Sciences for research on Statistical and Research Methodology in Education.

Don Kulick is a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow, on leave for the fully 2012-2013 academic year to work on his research.
