Comparative Human Development continues to dominate the Guggenheim Foundation awards at the University of Chicago in recent years. Today the New York Times announced that Professor Jennifer Cole has been named a Guggenheim Fellow in African Studies/Humanities by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. She is one of only three in the State of Illinois.
Jennifer is the third Guggenheim Fellow from our department in the last six years, after John Lucy (2005, Psychology) and Don Kulick (2012, Anthropology & Cultural Studies). In addition, Micere Keels and Guanglei Hong hold two W. T. Grant Fellowships this year. Among all the other honors our faculty have received, these stand out as very broad national competitions. Given the size of our department, this is an amazing story, and just another illustration of the value of our scholarship.
