Chris Graziul is a computational social scientist studying what joint use of structured and unstructured data about policing can tell us about officer interactions with male youth of color. His current project integrates diverse theoretical perspectives and computational techniques to develop theory-based data science. Specifically, he applies Spencer’s phenomenological variant of ecological systems theory (PVEST) to understand how policing professionals’ use of two-way radio communications shapes incident outcomes. Consequently, his work explores the current technical and ethical limits of applied AI/ML research in the social sciences.
